Kilfountan, county Kerry

Q 422 031 - Sheet 70

Nearest village: Dingle

It is amazing that this slender, fragile, portable pillar has survived almost intact.
It is one of the very few cross-pillars to have a creative cross-design, half-uncial lettering
(FINTEN read from the bottom up with the F vertical and the other letters sideways)
and part of an ogam inscription which probably pre-dates the rest
In front of the pillar is a shallow bullaun.

A close-up view with haystack, also taken in 1975.

A fine multiple bullaun not far away at Kilmalkedar.
